Just got home from the Bowling Green Warren County Public Library, where I heard Sharyn McCrumb speak. Wow! That was entertaining.
Ms McCrumb is promoting her new book…
I haven’t read any of her work yet, but if it’s half as interesting as the author, I’m sure it’s amazing.
Describing her writer-role as a “speaker for the dead”, Ms McCrumb seeks to memorialize persons in our history that played important or interesting roles but are doomed to obscurity by the simple immensity of history itself. Her work obviously requires a great deal of research. As a speaker she imbues that with the fascination she must feel for it.
She makes history so fascinating that I am sad that I cannot explore it to the depth that she does. I will have to depend on her to do that, and then read the harvest of her work.
