Just got back from the library, where I heard Robert Beatty, author of the YA Serafina series speak. What fun!
Writer from a young age, Mr Beatty developed his own software company before his two young daughters drew him into writing YA fiction. I think the young readers of America are very happy that happened. He is a very entertaining speaker, but the highlight of the evening came when he invited all the young people in the room down in front of the stage to watch the two trailers for his books, “Serafina and the Black Cloak” and “Serafina and the Twisted Staff”, then opened up a Q&A session for them. So many little arms in the air! The kids were bubbling over with questions. It was a delight to watch their reactions.
I bought a book and started reading it already (I love YA fantasy), but I did not stay to get it signed. It just felt like it was the kids’ special night.
